| Our local recently learned that US Marines returning to our area are flying into Palm Springs International Airport, sometimes at night after the buses have stopped running. To get to their duty station at the 29 Palms Marine Base, their only option was to take a cab, at a cost of about $200 for the 55 mile ride. Since 2007, some 6,000 Marines have gotten rides from SOSride, a volunteer organization that gives a free ride to any soldier who needs it. | On December 8th a "thank you" dinner was held at the Fontana Breakfast Lions Club to honor those who donated cash or toys to the annual Toys for Tots campaign. Our President Richard Bruce and others were on hand to deliver the toys collected at the Union Hall. A plaque was given to Local 8599 commemorating our participation in this years event. |
