Conference December 9th - 13th, 2009 in Pittsburgh, Pa
The Civil Rights Committee attended the International Conference on Civil and Human Rights in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 9th through December 13th. Committee members heard stirring
speeches given by Labor leaders (including USW President Leo Gerard), International Organizers and
long-time Civil Rights activists. There were community projects and workshops and plenty of handouts
and information. Pittsburgh is a beautiful city, and the Committee was proud to attend the Conference
and represent  Local 8599  amongst over 450 of our Steelworker Brothers and Sisters. Want to see

Recent Committee activities:
The Civil Rights Committee and Local 8599 sponsored a trip to the Los Angeles Museum of Tolerance. Bus transportation
was provided, and tickets were purchased by the Local for 47 members and guests (family members and significant
others). All who attended were moved by the serious nature of the exhibits, and the stories that were shared. The
committee would like to say thanks to the members, to the Transportation Department for discounting the bus fees, and to
the MOT for the great group rate on the ticket package and the personal guided tour we received.
